King St. Transit Pilot - Traffic & Pedestrian Volumes Summary

The King Street Transit Pilot launched on Sunday, November 12, 2017 between Bathurst Street and Jarvis Street. The Pilot aims to improve transit reliability, speed, and capacity by prioritizing streetcars over private vehicles.

Baseline traffic & pedestrian volumes were collected during October and early November 2017.

Monthly updates of traffic & pedestrian volumes on King St. (between Bathurst and Jarvis) will be published until the end of the pilot.

  • Volumes are collected at 31 intersections in the Pilot area using a video-based counting system
  • Volumes are classified into vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians
  • Approximately one week of activity is captured per month, with more intensive collection conducted in the first months of the pilot
  • This data has been published on the City's website in monthly dashboards since the beginning of the Pilot.
  • Counts are presented by time period (AM peak period, PM peak period, etc.)
  • Counts are presented by intersection approach leg (N, S, E, W) and direction to of travel at that intersection (NB, SB, EB, WB)
